Review of IAPT (Changing Minds)
27th May 2022

The more sessions I had the more I got to know and felt comfortable opening up more with the therapist. Some people may have preferred a face to face, but for myself, the telephone appointment suited me better.

Suggested improvements
I couldn’t fault this service. I felt my therapist was very professional and I felt comfortable talking. He had a good understanding of my health and didn’t judge me . I think IAPT will help many other people who struggle with a variety of health issues.

[name removed] was patient throughout our appointments, listened to me fully and never made me feel silly or judged for what I was talking about. She empowered me to improve my way of thinking when I worried that I couldn’t see a way out of my own mind. The tools she used were explained fully and at times that I couldn’t understand something or see how to put it in perspective she used examples of what I had said to make it relevant and this helped me to implement them easily in to my life. She made me feel valid in seeking support and I never felt rushed. She approached the subject of bringing the sessions to a close by making sure I was ready and in agreement to this and gave me a good plan of how to move forward. I can’t thank her enough for her help and kind approach to her work.

Suggested improvements
I don’t think there is anything from this experience that could have been better. I liked the video calls as they were easy to access and I found them better than phone calls and it reduced the build up that I would sometimes experience with face to face contacts.

[name removed] gave me some great advice on how to think about things differently and proactively made sure that the structure of the sessions fitted what I wanted and created the most value. I found him very personable and understanding, completely respected, and I'd recommend the service to anybody based on my experience with it.

Suggested improvements
Going through survey results can take quite a long time in sessions - I wish this was a bit quicker from the start, but perhaps others like to focus on survey results (the anxiety survey, for example) in more detail. The last exercise on planning time was a bit less clear to me, and I never really successfully implemented it. I wasn't too clear what activities to put when and why - other than to focus on things I felt would be easier to accomplish. Advice from [name removed] on how to make activiies easier was very insightful, though.

Response from Campbell House

Thank you for your feedback. The U&ME programme switched to online delivery during the covid pandemic. Whilst we recognise this is preferable to some people, we're currently planning a return to some groups being delivered face to face. Although the U&ME programme is designed as a standalone group intervention, we recognise some individuals may require additional support via individual sessions. We will consider your feedback when evaluating our mid and end of programme review processes.

Initial impression is very poor

I suffer major depression and anxiety so making appts is a real challenge to me. I received a text telling me they have been unable to contact me, this was clearly not the case seen as they where able to text me...I then called to arrange an telephone assessment appt. This was booked and confirmed and I completed the online GAD form as requested. After a sleepless night and much thought about the telephone call, I awaited but was not called. I then called the organisation and was on hold for circa 50 minutes before getting through. Again anxiety provoking. I was told they called me and no reply, this was not true as I received no calls, i then received an e mail telling me I had missed an appt'. Considering they had texted me previously, they of course had the correct number for me. This was very upsetting and set me back, re preparing for the appt' and then it didnt happen and then had to rebook, spending 50 minutes to get through.
